Notable celebrities include Honus Wagner (who, according to local legend, was discovered throwing rocks across Chartiers Creek not too far from his home). Mike Ditka was also born here. A baseball field is named after him.

Carnegie is ethnically diverse, marked by the number of churches as well as bars in the neighborhood. There are two Orthodox Churches (Ukrainian and Russian), two Lutheran churches, a Ukrainian Catholic church, a Methodist church, An Episcopal church, a Polish Catholic church and a synagogue. The churches were primarily responsible for assisting the community after Hurricane Ivan.

Carnegie also has many local fraternal organizations including the VFW, FOE, American Legion, Elks, Polish Eagles, Polish Sportsmen, AOH, Ukrainian-American Citizens' Club (the "Ukes"), plus a number of smaller clubs.

The Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall

CarnegieLibrary.jpg The 1901 Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall (ACFL&MH) sits graciously on a hill above Carnegie’s Main Street. The facility houses a fine regional library, an acoustically excellent music hall, studios, a lovely reception hall, and—a true national treasure—its Civil War Room.   The Thomas Espy Post of the Grand Army of the Republic is one of the seven or eight most intact G.A.R. post in the country. The historic landmark ACFL&MH is one of only four libraries in the United States endowed by famed industrialist and philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie.  (Braddock, Homestead and Duquesne – the last, sadly demolished – where Carnegie had steel mills, are the others.)
